Save Land – United for Land
From December 6, 2024 to June 1, 2025, the Bundeskunsthalle in Bonn is presenting the exhibition “Save Land – United for Land”, a cooperation with the UNCCD-G20 Global Land Initiative to mark the 30th anniversary of the UNCCD. This exhibition combines contemporary art, cultural-historical exhibits and the latest media technologies to shed light on the global situation of our land areas and inspire action.
Only 29 percent of the earth’s surface is land – our habitat. But up to 40 percent of the world’s soils are already considered desolate. The exhibition “United for Land” not only shows the threats, but also solutions and options for action. It combines art, science and technology to create awareness of the urgency of the issue.

Collaborating for Land
The exhibition was conceived and designed by the Viennese design agency dform. BILDWERK was given the exciting challenge of realizing the exhibition’s multimedia and interactive exhibits. From programming to the production of media content – we used innovative technologies to take visitors on an impressive journey through the importance of and threats to our soils.
Interactive Globe
The spherical projection of the globe visualizes various geological data sets that impressively illustrate the global situation of land areas. Visitors can interactively explore data on environmental pollution, soil degradation and many other topics. The spherical control of the globe projection via a makes it possible to explore every part of the globe in an intuitive way.
Interactive Projections
Three large-scale floor projections invite visitors to explore the exhibition’s themes in a playful way. Through movement and interaction, curious viewers can change the projections and uncover deeper content – an experimental approach to complex topics such as climate change and land degradation.
Panoramic Cinema
The panoramic cinema offers an atmospheric and emotional experience that combines satellite images, photographs and video material on three large-format projection surfaces. Accompanied by specially composed atmospheric music, a synaesthetic installation is created that impressively stages the beauty and fragility of our landscapes.
Companions & Sticker generator
Using specially designed mini displayss, visitors can experience virtual companions through the exhibition. These “digital narrators” offer additional information, cross-references and interactive elements that deepen the understanding of the exhibition content. At the end of the exhibition, one last highlight awaits visitors: the sticker generator. Here, personalized stickers can be designed that contain messages that are intended to encourage people to remain active even after visiting the museum and to spread the message of the exhibition further.
